Summary

Teams participating in the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil will now receive the same preparation funds as those in the 2026 Men’s World Cup, according to FIFA's announcement.

The preparation funds for all 32 teams have been significantly increased to $2.5 million (£1.86 million) each, more than doubling the previous amount. The total preparation budget for the tournament will rise from $31 million in 2023 to $80 million.

In a move aimed at leveling the playing field, FIFA guarantees that every player will travel either via business class or on chartered flights and will have individual hotel rooms, eliminating the need to share accommodations. This initiative addresses previous controversies regarding player treatment at past tournaments.

A 2023 survey by the players’ union Fifpro indicated that 80% of players had business class return flights, while 94% enjoyed business class on their outbound journeys.

The total prize fund for the upcoming tournament is still under discussion. Meanwhile, FIFA has announced that the United States will host the inaugural Women’s Club World Cup in January 2028, with Los Angeles and San Diego as potential host cities. This competition will feature 19 teams, with seven already qualified, including Arsenal, Club América Femenil, Barcelona, Gotham FC, Naegohyang from North Korea, Corinthians, and Wuhan Jiangda.

FIFA’s chief women’s football officer, Sarai Bareman, emphasized the United States' capacity to host such events, highlighting its strong infrastructure and growing interest in women’s football. She stated, "Our mission will be to set an impressive standard for global women’s club football and a benchmark for the future."
