Manchester United has confirmed a deal to sign Karl Darlow from Leeds United, bringing in the experienced goalkeeper to serve as their new backup.

The 35-year-old shot-stopper will transition directly between the historic rivals, enhancing United's goalkeeping options ahead of a demanding domestic and European campaign.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal is finalized, and he provided his signature “here we go” confirmation. Darlow will join the Red Devils on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Elland Road. The administrative process is progressing smoothly, with all terms agreed upon and the official contract signing set for Friday.

Darlow’s arrival signals the expected departure of Altay Bayindir, who has struggled for playing time since his move from Fenerbahce, featuring in only 17 competitive games. With Darlow set to be the secondary choice behind undisputed number one Senne Lammens, Bayindir is likely to return to Turkey, with Besiktas reportedly leading in the race for his signature.

United had sought an experienced, homegrown backup to replace Tom Heaton and opted for Darlow over Sam Johnstone from Wolves due to cost-effectiveness.

Darlow’s exit represents a significant shift for Leeds United's goalkeeping lineup. Earlier in the window, they sold long-time first-choice goalkeeper Illan Meslier to Arsenal. With both senior keepers now gone, Leeds, under Daniel Farke, is actively pursuing new targets like Zion Suzuki to rebuild their defensive structure.
