Formula 1's 2027 season is set to introduce an increased number of Sprint weekends, with the full schedule to be revealed "very soon," according to president Stefano Domenicali.

The Sprint format, which celebrated its five-year anniversary at the British Grand Prix, has become an integral part of the racing calendar, featuring a unique weekend structure that includes:

• A separate qualifying session on Friday
• A 100km Sprint race on Saturday
• The main Grand Prix event on Sunday

This season, six Sprints are staged, a number that has grown from three in 2023. Domenicali noted the positive impact of Sprints on both attendance and global viewership, citing the 150,000 fans present at Silverstone as evidence of the format’s success.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Domenicali expressed optimism about expanding the Sprint format, stating, "If you remember in the beginning, people were always sceptical... we have the duty to be brave and think out of the box."

Sky Sports reports that the 2027 calendar might feature nine or 10 Sprints. Additionally, the Portuguese Grand Prix and Turkish Grand Prix will return, while the Dutch Grand Prix will be removed after this year. Barcelona will enter a rotation with Belgium, returning in 2028.
