Everton is on the verge of securing Christian Norgaard from Arsenal as they seek a replacement for the departed Idrissa Gueye. The Merseyside club is currently engaged in negotiations with the Premier League champions, with a transfer fee estimated at £7m.

This potential move would mark Norgaard as Everton’s fourth signing of the summer, following the acquisitions of fellow midfielders Merlin Rohl and Hayden Hackney, along with winger Tyrique George.

Norgaard, who joined Arsenal for £15m from Brentford, is expected to leave the Emirates Stadium after just one season. Although he made 20 appearances for Arsenal, he only started one Premier League match—the final game of the season, a 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace. His playing time in the top flight totaled a mere 57 minutes prior to that match.

In contrast, Norgaard was a regular starter at Brentford, leading the team as captain and featuring in 120 Premier League games over four seasons.

The departure of Gueye, who left Everton last week after his contract expired, has created a need for midfield reinforcements. Everton had been in discussions with the 36-year-old about a new contract, but ultimately decided to part ways.

Selling Norgaard would also contribute to Arsenal's summer transfer funds, which have already been bolstered by sales involving Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior, and Karl Hein. Manager Mikel Arteta aims to enhance his squad with new signings, eyeing targets like Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle and Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid.
