Everton faces a schedule shake-up as their Carabao Cup third-round match against Wolves has been moved just nine days before the game. Originally slated for Wednesday, 9 September, the fixture will now take place a week later on Wednesday, 16 September.

The initial date was set to avoid a clash with Liverpool's home tie against Tottenham, which was scheduled for 16 September after being selected for a Sky Sports broadcast. However, when Uefa announced its Champions League fixtures, it became clear that Liverpool would kick off their European campaign against Atletico Madrid on 9 September. Due to Merseyside Police regulations, both Liverpool and Everton cannot play at home on the same night.

Despite the EFL's appeal to Uefa to adjust the Liverpool-Atletico match date, the request was denied due to the precedence of European fixtures. The rescheduling means:

• Everton vs. Wolves: Now on 16 September
• Liverpool vs. Tottenham: Moved to Tuesday, 15 September
• Wolves' Championship game against Portsmouth postponed to 20 October

The EFL has expressed regret for the short-notice changes, citing a lack of options and frustration over Uefa's refusal to cooperate. Uefa acknowledged the situation, stating that no issues were raised during the scheduling process and that changes were not feasible after the publication of the fixture lists, especially considering fans' travel arrangements.
