Errol Spence Jr’s highly anticipated boxing comeback against Tim Tszyu has been impacted by a last-minute rule modification. The fight, set for 26 July at Sydney Olympic Park in Australia, will now take place at middleweight, with the limit raised from a 158lb catchweight to 160lb.

The change was confirmed to Fox Sports Australia by No Limit Boxing, the event’s promoter. This bout marks Spence's first in three years, following his defeat to Terence Crawford in July 2023, where he lost his WBC, WBA, and IBF titles.

Tim Tszyu, son of legendary boxer Kostya Tszyu, initially aimed for a super-welterweight matchup, where he held the WBO title from 2023 to 2024. However, both fighters will compete at their career-heaviest weights on fight night.

Tszyu, 31, expressed confidence about the weight change, stating:

Well, I took Sebastian Fundora on roughly a week’s notice, so you think I’m worried about a couple of pounds? No, I go for it. He added, "I think he’s starting to realise the disadvantage that is travelling all the way down here for a fight."

Currently, Tszyu boasts a professional record of 27-3 (18 KOs), while Spence holds 28-1 (22 KOs). Tszyu last won against Denis Nurja in April, setting the stage for this crucial clash.
