Ollie Robinson has been excluded from England's lineup for the critical third Test against New Zealand, despite being fit for selection. Robinson, who had an impressive debut at Lord's in 2024 with figures of 7-77, missed the second Test due to knee soreness but was named in the preliminary squad for the series decider. However, Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue retain their spots in the playing XI.

In a significant boost for England, captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson make their anticipated returns after serving a one-match suspension linked to a nightclub incident involving a team curfew breach. Both players have been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Cricket Regulator.

The team sees the return of wicketkeeper Jamie Smith from paternity leave, replacing debutant James Rew. Additionally, Atkinson and spinner Shoaib Bashir are included in the squad, pushing out Sonny Baker and Matt Fisher, despite Fisher's noteworthy performance in the second Test. All-rounder Rehan Ahmed, who performed well in the County Championship, was not selected.

Jordan Cox has made way for Stokes, who returns to bat at No 7 after making his Test debut at The Oval.
