England Women's national selector Lydia Greenway has outlined a strategic plan to close the gap with the world's top team, Australia, by focusing on developing 'world-class' all-rounders. This initiative has seen all-rounders Dani Gibson and Freya Kemp play pivotal roles, contributing to a successful summer that included T20 series victories over New Zealand and India, along with a run to the T20 World Cup final.

Despite experiencing a setback in the historic first women's Test at Lord's against India, England ended their summer on a high note, achieving a 3-0 ODI series sweep against Ireland. In the final ODI, England secured a commanding 114-run victory in Worcester, with Sophia Dunkley impressively scoring 119 runs off just 119 balls.

Greenway emphasized the importance of all-rounders in the women's game, stating, "We know in the women's game, it's the all-rounders who dominate." She noted the need for players to excel in multiple skills to enhance team dynamics and competition.

As part of this strategy, Alice Capsey was trialed as wicketkeeper instead of the regular Amy Jones, aiming to diversify the team's capabilities. Greenway explained that if Capsey can successfully add wicketkeeping to her skill set, it could open up more opportunities within the squad.

Former England player Tash Farrant reflected on the series, highlighting the potential of partnerships like Maia Boucher and Dunkley at the top of the order. Meanwhile, former Ireland international Isobel Joyce praised Charlie Dean’s leadership, noting her ability to perform well under pressure.

Despite Dean's impressive performance as a stand-in captain, Greenway confirmed that Nat Sciver-Brunt will continue leading the team across formats, reinforcing the depth of leadership emerging within the squad.
