Darren Lehmann confirmed he has not been approached regarding the England Test head coach position, while endorsing fellow Australian Justin Langer as a strong candidate for the role. Langer has emerged as the frontrunner following Brendon McCullum's dismissal last week. Andy Flower has already ruled himself out, citing commitments with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL and London Spirit in The Hundred.

Lehmann, who led Australia to a 5-0 Ashes triumph in the 2013-14 series, expressed his contentment with his current role at Northamptonshire, stating, "I'm very happy coaching Northants and I haven't had any phone calls." He speculated that the England hierarchy likely has a candidate in mind after the mid-summer change.

Langer, who succeeded Lehmann as Australia coach, has a notable history, including retaining the Ashes in 2019 and winning the series 4-0 in the 2021-22 season. However, he resigned in February 2022 amid disputes with senior players. If considered for the England role, Langer faces a dilemma similar to Flower's, balancing his commitments with the Lucknow Super Giants and Manchester Super Giants.

During a recent match, Lehmann remarked that if Langer pursued the England position, he would be an excellent choice. Meanwhile, Harry Brook, the England ODI captain, expressed hope for a swift resolution ahead of the upcoming three-match Test series against Pakistan, starting on August 19. Brook emphasized that the decision is out of his hands, stating, "I'm fully behind whoever they pick, and hopefully it's the right decision."
