Stuart Broad has emphasized the urgent need for England to trial an extra seamer, highlighting the necessity of bolstering their bowling attack with the Cricket World Cup on the horizon. Following a disappointing six-wicket defeat to India at Edgbaston, England's vulnerabilities in the ODI format have come to the forefront.

Despite recently ascending to the top of the T20 world rankings, England's ODI performance has been lackluster, now sitting eighth in the standings with 14 losses in their last 20 matches. Broad remarked, "England are playing like they are eighth," indicating a pressing need for player development and experience in key roles.

In the match, Joe Root scored an unbeaten 76 and Liam Dawson contributed a maiden ODI half-century, but England's total of 258 proved insufficient. Shubman Gill led India's response with a masterful 80 runs, effectively navigating through a challenging start.

Broad pointed out that the team’s reliance on Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue as the only recognized quicks is a significant concern. He stated, "There might be a shift in mindset towards playing another seamer," stressing the importance of having more fast bowlers in preparation for the World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

He suggested that England should consider players like Brydon Carse, Gus Atkinson, or Saqib Mahmood to fill this role and recommend starting trials immediately to enhance the squad's strength.
