Scott Rogers, head coach of the England men’s amputee team, faces a daunting challenge as the team struggles to secure funding for the upcoming Men's Amputee World Cup in Mexico this November. Despite winning the Nations League trophy in 2023, the team is not financially supported by the Football Association (FA), which funds six para national teams but excludes amputee football.

Currently, the amputee team needs to raise £50,000 to cover tournament costs, a stark contrast to the £21.5m earned by the senior team for finishing third in their World Cup. Rogers expressed frustration, stating, "For an England team at the top of the game to miss a World Cup due to funding, it doesn’t sit right."

The FA cut funding for amputee football in 2006, leading to the establishment of a charity that has since developed a robust structure, including a women’s team that reached the quarter-finals of the 2024 World Cup.

He calls for the FA to recognize the potential of amputee football, stating, "What we’re asking for is a drop in the ocean."

An FA spokesperson confirmed ongoing support for the England Amputee Football Association, emphasizing their commitment to developing amputee football in England. However, the future remains uncertain as funding challenges persist.
