Emma Finucane etched her name into the history books on the final day of the Commonwealth Games, becoming the first sprint cyclist to win four track gold medals at a single event. This remarkable achievement capped off a Games that saw Australia dominate with a staggering 171 medals, including 70 gold.

Finucane's latest triumph came in the keirin, adding to her previous golds in the team and individual sprints and the 1,000m time trial. With two laps remaining, she surged to the front and held off a challenge from Ellesse Andrews, the Olympic champion from New Zealand, winning by half a bike length.

Reflecting on her experience, Finucane stated, “I was convinced they would come round me... I could have easily gone out in the semis.” She credited her emotional growth since the Paris 2024 Olympics, expressing that she learned to handle pressure better.

After her historic performance, Finucane plans to take a holiday with her sister before focusing on the track world championships in Shanghai this October. "To stand here and have four golds, I have no words," she said, emphasizing her disbelief at her achievement.
