Elodie and Delphine Riley, the talented sisters from Guernsey, made their mark at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow. Competing in the 200m freestyle heats, the pair showcased their skills in a thrilling family showdown.

Seventeen-year-old Elodie finished closely behind her 19-year-old sister Delphine, who secured family bragging rights with a time of 2:11.01, edging Elodie by 0.67 seconds. Delphine placed fifth in their heat, while Elodie followed in seventh. Despite the competitive atmosphere, both sisters found comfort in racing alongside each other, with Elodie stating, "Coming to a massive international event like this, it's nice to have some sort of familiarity to ease us into it."

The sisters, who are experiencing such a prestigious competition for the first time, expressed their excitement about participating in events featuring top athletes, including Australia's Olympic gold medallist Lani Pallister.

In addition to the 200m freestyle, the Riley sisters also competed in the same heat for the 400m freestyle on Friday and are set to swim in the 800m freestyle on Tuesday.

Elodie expressed her aspirations for the future, saying, "I'm feeling very inspired to hopefully aim for the next Commonwealth Games as well. I’d really love to do this again; it’s been an amazing experience." Their journey continues, fueled by a shared passion for swimming and a supportive sibling bond.
