Elena Rybakina has emerged as the undisputed best tennis player in the world, following her dramatic 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open final. This win not only crowned her as the champion but also allowed her to snatch the No 1 ranking from the two-time defending champion, solidifying her status as the new standard bearer of women’s tennis.

Despite struggling with an Achilles injury prior to the tournament, Rybakina showcased remarkable mental resilience throughout the event. She faced off against four consecutive grand slam or Olympic champions in the second week, overcoming each challenge with determination.

In the final, Rybakina started with a shaky serve, landing only 27% of first serves in the opening set. However, her shotmaking and baseline dominance overwhelmed Sabalenka, who struggled under pressure, even receiving a code violation for a frustrated outburst.

Key moments of the match included:

• First Set: Sabalenka double-faulted at a critical moment, allowing Rybakina to secure an early break.
• Second Set: Sabalenka rallied to force a decider, capitalizing on Rybakina's momentary lapse in focus.
• Final Set: Rybakina reset her game, showcasing her best serve and powerful returns, ultimately outpacing Sabalenka.

With this victory, Rybakina joins the ranks of tennis legends like Lindsay Davenport and Ash Barty as a three-time grand slam champion. She now holds the three most prestigious hard-court titles: the Australian Open, the US Open, and the WTA Finals.

This encounter marked a historic moment, being only the second time in 38 years that the same two players competed in both the Australian Open and US Open finals on hard courts. The rivalry between Rybakina and Sabalenka continues to elevate the sport, producing thrilling matches that resonate with tennis fans worldwide.
