Eberchi Eze's position within the Arsenal squad has come under scrutiny as he struggles to find his form this season. The 28-year-old was notably absent during a crucial moment in the Gunners' 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in December 2025, leading to his relegation to the substitute's bench for four consecutive league matches.

Despite being a beloved figure among teammates and fans, including recognition from England manager Thomas Tuchel, Eze's performance has not met expectations. Tuchel acknowledged that Eze is "coming back to his true shape and form" but hinted that he has yet to hit his peak this season.

The scrutiny intensified after Arsenal failed to secure a top-tier attacker during the transfer window, missing out on targets like Vinicius Jr. from Real Madrid and Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid. The signing of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge had initially placed him as the first-choice winger, but with Tzolis sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Eze had a chance to reclaim his spot. Although he scored against Lille in the Champions League, he could not replicate that success against Nottingham Forest.

Matt Upson, former defender for Arsenal and England, suggested that Eze's struggle lies in finding his role within the team. He stated, "When you come to a club with the stature and quality of Arsenal, if you're not showing that you're nailing down a certain role, it’s very hard to maintain a position."

Eze's previous success at Crystal Palace, including a decisive goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City in 2025, contrasts sharply with his current challenges. Upson noted that Eze's ability to shine is hindered by uncertainty in his role, especially with Martin Odegaard occupying the number 10 position, limiting Eze's opportunities.

To improve his standing, Eze must adapt to the expectations of a high-intensity environment like Arsenal, as Upson emphasized the importance of understanding his responsibilities and increasing his intensity to secure more starting opportunities.
