At stumps, England stood at 177 for seven, leading by 357 runs, thanks in part to Lawrence, who finished the day unbeaten on 50. He shared his thoughts on the competition for places, stating, “I’ve really tried not to think about that. I’m just trying to give a good showing of myself and thankfully I think I have done.”

Reflecting on his previous struggles, Lawrence noted his last stint in the team during the 2024 series against Sri Lanka, where he faced difficulties, scoring three single-digit scores and three in the thirties. He emphasized a new mentality, focusing on enjoying the game rather than worrying about his position.

As a middle-order batter, he acknowledged the enjoyment of batting closer to his preferred position at No 6, rather than coveting the opener role held by Emilio Gay. He praised Gay's efforts, despite his recent dismissal, and expressed hope for a successful series.
