Cristian Volpato, the rising star of the Socceroos, has allegedly tested positive for cocaine following two speeding stops by police in Sydney. The incidents occurred on the night of Thursday, when the 22-year-old midfielder was pulled over while driving his BMW Coupe on the Anzac Bridge.

The first stop took place at 11:05 PM, where he was clocked driving between 86-94 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. Although he underwent a roadside breath test that returned negative results, the situation escalated two hours later when he was stopped again for exceeding the speed limit at 109 km/h in the same zone.

In response to the second incident, New South Wales state police issued Volpato an infringement notice for excess speed and suspended his international driver's license for six months, prohibiting him from driving in the state. Police have confirmed that their investigation is ongoing, and a secondary sample of oral fluid was collected for further analysis.

Volpato's recent performances include playing in three of Australia's four matches during the World Cup, where the team reached the round of 32, ultimately losing to Egypt in a penalty shootout. After previously representing Italy at youth level, he switched allegiances to Australia just before the tournament.

Currently playing for Sassuolo in Serie A, Volpato made 24 league appearances last season, contributing to the club's 11th place finish. Both Football Australia and Sassuolo have been contacted for comments regarding this incident.
