Coventry City has officially signed Carl Rushworth, a 25-year-old goalkeeper, from Brighton & Hove Albion after his impressive loan spell at the CBS Arena. The transfer, reportedly a club record at £22 million, has not seen the fee or contract duration disclosed by either club.

Last season, Rushworth was pivotal for Coventry, participating in all 46 league matches and achieving 17 clean sheets, contributing significantly to the team's triumph in the Championship, which marked a 25-year wait for promotion to the Premier League.

In his own words, Rushworth expressed his joy:

I'm really happy, there's so many emotions that I've got. There's excitement, I can finally relax knowing it's done and that I'm back with the boys and at a club I loved being at.

Despite joining Brighton from his hometown club Halifax Town in 2019, Rushworth did not make any senior appearances for the Seagulls. He has spent the last seven years on six different loan spells.

Manager Frank Lampard praised Rushworth, stating, "It's great to have Carl back with us on a permanent basis. He's a top professional, a great character and he had a huge impact on the team to help us get promoted last season."

Rushworth's return solidifies Coventry's goalkeeping options as they prepare for their Premier League campaign.
