Barratt Redrow, the housebuilding company with an option to redevelop Kempton Park racecourse in Surrey, has denied claims made by local MP Lincoln Jopp regarding plans to bulldoze the historic site. Jopp stated during a meeting with local residents that he had been informed of an impending planning application to construct over 2,000 new homes on the site.

However, a spokesperson for Barratt Redrow refuted this assertion, clarifying that "a planning application is not going to be submitted this year" and that the company would continue to collaborate with Spelthorne borough council as part of their "Call for Sites" initiative.

The Jockey Club initially announced plans to sell the site for housing in January 2017, but faced strong opposition from racing fans, professionals, and local residents, leading to the proposal being shelved in early 2020. In late 2025, it was revealed that the developer had negotiated a 10-year option to purchase the site in 2018 contingent on obtaining planning permission, placing its future beyond the Jockey Club's control.

The renewed speculation regarding Kempton Park coincides with recent changes to planning laws under the government’s Planning and Infrastructure Act, which aims to bolster housebuilding across the country.
