Mystery surrounds Leon Baptiste, a highly regarded British Athletics coach, who has not been heard from since his trip to Morocco approximately two months ago. The 41-year-old coach, known for guiding elite athletes like Charlie Dobson, the Paris Olympic 4x400m relay bronze medallist, reportedly traveled to Morocco for a stag do or golf trip with friends but has since gone silent.

Despite attempts to reach him, neither his athletes nor UK Athletics officials have received any communication. UKA has chosen not to comment on the situation, citing confidentiality. A former teammate described Baptiste as a calm and sensible individual, expressing concern about his unexplained absence: “No one knows what has happened. It is very worrying.”

In Baptiste’s absence, Dobson has faced challenges, struggling with injuries that affected his performance at the European Championships in Birmingham. He finished fourth in his semi-final with a time of 45.18 seconds, significantly slower than his personal best of 44.14 seconds set last year. Dobson noted the difficulties of the past eight weeks, hinting at the impact of Baptiste's disappearance on his training and performance.

To support Dobson and other athletes, UKA staff have intervened, with Martyn Rooney, a former European 400m champion, stepping in to guide Dobson. Baptiste, a former sprinter who won gold in the 200m and 4x100m relay at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, had to retire at 28 due to a serious knee injury, which also prevented him from competing in the 2012 Olympics.
