Natalie Metcalf has been ruled out of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow due to a calf injury, leaving her devastated. The 33-year-old, who recently returned to competitive play after the birth of her daughter, sustained the injury on Monday and confirmed her absence following medical scans.

Metcalf was a key player for England, having contributed to their gold medal victory at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 on the Gold Coast. As the only member of the 2026 squad who participated in that triumph, her loss is significant.

Expressing her disappointment, Metcalf stated, "I'm devastated to not be able to continue with the team," emphasizing the emotional toll this decision has taken on her. She has been replaced in the squad by Ella Clark.

The Roses, currently ranked third in the world, are set to compete in Pool A alongside top-ranked Australia, South Africa, Malawi, Tonga, and Northern Ireland, starting their campaign on July 25.

England head coach Anna Stembridge expressed her disappointment, stating, "To receive this news so close to the Games is devastating, particularly given the incredible journey she has been on over the past 14 months." She praised Metcalf's inspiring return to the court after motherhood, highlighting the team's collective heartbreak over her absence.
