Team Wales added to their medal tally at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, securing two bronze medals in swimming on a thrilling night.

Rhys Darbey, a 19-year-old Para-swimmer from Deeside, initially placed fourth in the men's S14 200m freestyle final. However, after his teammate Dylan Broom was disqualified for an early start, Darbey was promoted to third, marking a significant achievement.

In addition, the 4x100m mixed freestyle relay team, featuring Matt Richards, Dan Jones, Rebecca Sutton, and Theodora Taylor, clinched bronze. This event marked the first Commonwealth Games medal for Olympic champion Richards, who had previously finished fourth in Birmingham in 2022.

The relay squad’s strategy paid off as they opted for a different lineup in the final, with Sutton and Taylor focusing solely on the relay after qualifying for individual semi-finals. Taylor, just 17, made a remarkable comeback in the final leg, propelling Wales from fifth to third place.

Earlier in the evening, Rose Williams finished fourth in the women's S14 200m freestyle final. The S14 category includes athletes with intellectual impairments, affecting their performance due to challenges in pattern recognition and reaction times.

Additional results included Tyler Melbourne-Smith, who placed sixth in the 400m freestyle final, while Lewis Fraser qualified for the 100m butterfly final, set to take place on Sunday evening. With these victories, Team Wales now totals three medals, following Ela Letton-Jones's silver on the opening night.
