The 2026 Commonwealth Games have officially kicked off in Glasgow, with athletes from 74 nations and territories competing for gold. This year's event is particularly notable as Glasgow stages the Games for the second time in 12 years, following the withdrawal of the Australian state of Victoria three years prior due to hosting costs.

The Games are featuring a streamlined 10-sport programme along with six Para sports, encompassing disciplines such as athletics, gymnastics, cycling, and swimming, held across four venues in the city.

In a thrilling start, Team England celebrated their first gold medal as Mark Swan triumphed in the men’s lightweight category of the men’s para powerlifting. Swan showcased remarkable strength by lifting 222kg, which is more than three times his body weight.
