Bethany Firth, a six-time Paralympic champion, has made history by winning Northern Ireland's first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. She claimed a bronze in the women's 200m freestyle S14 event, held at the Tollcross Swimming Centre.

Firth, who previously clinched gold in the same event during the Birmingham 2022 Games, finished with a time of 2:07.63. Her journey to the podium began with a strong performance in the heats, where she secured the top spot.

In the final, the 30-year-old faced tough competition from Georgia Sheffield and Poppy Maskill of England. Sheffield dominated the last 50 meters, setting a Commonwealth Games record with her remarkable time of 2:06.07, while Maskill finished just ahead of Firth at 2:07.44.

Firth's accomplishment not only marks a personal achievement in her fourth Commonwealth Games but also highlights Northern Ireland's growing presence in international para-sport.
