Angharad Evans emerged as Scotland's breakout star at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, showcasing remarkable talent and determination in the swimming pool. Despite describing herself as a "nervous swimmer," Evans secured a double gold in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, along with a silver and bronze in the relays, making her mark at the Tollcross venue.

After a slow start, she powered through the competition, culminating in a thrilling performance on the final night. Her standout moment came when she won gold in the 200m breaststroke, adding to Scotland's tally of four medals that night. Just hours later, Evans contributed a superb second leg in the women's 4x100m medley relay, finishing behind Australia for another silver.

Reflecting on her journey, Evans shared, "It's been a big step forward in my career. I don't hide from my nerves... I proved to myself that even though I am nervous, I can get medals individually and in relays."

The emotional atmosphere was palpable as she celebrated her victories with family and teammates, feeling the support of the crowd. "Going into the Commonwealth Games with no expectations and coming out with two gold medals... has just been so surreal," she noted.

Her success was part of a broader achievement for the Scottish swimming team, which garnered 12 medals, including four golds. Toni Shaw and Keanna MacInnes also made headlines, with Shaw replicating her bronze from four years ago and MacInnes adding to her medal tally.

As Evans looks ahead, she considers her recent achievements a stepping stone for future competitions, including the upcoming European Championships. "I think this is a really big step forward for me - and hopefully the Europeans will be another step forward. I won't go out without a fight," she affirmed.
