Colin Kaepernick, the former quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, has revealed his shift in viewing habits, stating he now watches college football instead of the NFL. In a recent interview with NBC News, Kaepernick expressed his discontent with the professional league, stating, "I'm not gonna support an organization that one, is actively blackballing me, but two, has targeted my brothers who have been protesting as part of this as well."

This admission comes ten years after Kaepernick’s pivotal protest against racial injustice, where he and teammate Eric Reid famously knelt during the national anthem. Kaepernick had previously declared, "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color."

Despite leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance in 2012, Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since the 2016 season. Following his exit from the league, he and Reid filed a lawsuit against the NFL, alleging collusion to keep them out of the sport, which culminated in a settlement in 2019.

Kaepernick has redirected his focus towards social activism, engaging in initiatives like Know Your Rights camps, which aim to empower marginalized communities. He stated, "What I think about is what are the areas that I can do work that I think are going to have an impact."

As he reflects on his legacy, Kaepernick remains focused on his current endeavors rather than dwelling on the past. His memoir, titled The Perilous Fight, is set to be released on September 15.
