Chelsea is swiftly preparing for the potential departure of Enzo Fernandez, with Lamine Camara from Monaco emerging as a leading replacement option before the transfer deadline.

The pursuit of Fernandez by Manchester City has intensified recently, prompting Chelsea to seek alternatives to avoid a midfield shortage. Negotiations for Camara, 22, are reportedly underway, with a deal valued at approximately €60 million.

• Negotiation Details:
  • Chelsea and Monaco are in discussions over Camara.
  • Thiago Scuro, CEO of Monaco, is spearheading the negotiations.
  • Both clubs aim to reach an agreement within the next 48 hours.

Get French Football News indicates that a fee around €60 million could persuade Monaco to part with the player. Camara had a standout 2025-26 season, netting three goals and providing four assists in 31 appearances, solidifying his role in Monaco’s midfield.

The urgency for Chelsea is clear, especially with the latest developments regarding Fernandez, who was notably omitted from Chelsea’s Carabao Cup squad against Luton due to the uncertainty surrounding his future.

Camara's style could significantly alter Chelsea's midfield dynamics. While Fernandez is known for his elite passing and creativity, Camara offers enhanced mobility, defensive intensity, and the capability to cover extensive areas of the pitch. At just 22, he aligns with Chelsea’s strategy of nurturing younger talent.

However, replacing the impact of a proven World Cup winner like Fernandez poses its own challenges. Expecting Camara to step into the role of a £100 million player immediately could set high expectations. Thus, Chelsea’s proactive approach to negotiate now rather than wait for City to finalize the Fernandez deal is prudent. Securing Camara for around €60 million while potentially receiving a significant sum for Fernandez could provide both financial and strategic advantages, allowing manager Xabi Alonso to reshape the midfield rather than merely replicate it.
