Chelsea and Manchester United are both exploring a move for Fenerbahçe defender Archie Brown as they continue searching for left-back reinforcements.

The 24-year-old has attracted attention following an impressive first season in Turkey, where his pace, strength, and willingness to attack made him one of the league’s more dynamic full-backs.

• Chelsea reportedly believe Brown could suit Xabi Alonso’s system, particularly because he is comfortable playing as an attacking full-back or wing-back.
• Manchester United, meanwhile, see him as a more affordable alternative to Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall, who remains difficult to sign.

Neither Premier League club has submitted a formal offer. Fenerbahçe also has no desire to sell, meaning Chelsea and United may need to present a convincing financial package to change their position.

According to TEAMtalk, intermediaries have contacted both clubs to discover whether either would pursue Brown this summer. Chelsea has monitored the defender for an extended period and believes his athleticism, attacking output, and versatility would work well under Alonso. Their need for another left-back has increased following Marc Cucurella’s departure, while negotiations for other targets have failed to progress.

United tracked Brown before his move from Gent to Fenerbahçe and have continued following his development. Lewis Hall remains their preferred option, but Newcastle’s reluctance to negotiate has encouraged them to study cheaper alternatives.

Brown signed a three-year contract with an option for a further season when he joined in July 2025, giving Fenerbahçe considerable control over negotiations. Chelsea could find that Brown provides the width and energy Alonso expects, while United would benefit from his physical profile and ability to compete with Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu.

Brown represents sensible recruitment for either club, especially if his price remains considerably lower than Hall’s. However, describing him as a cheap option may be misleading since Fenerbahçe has little reason to sell. Chelsea and United should test the situation, but neither should become involved in an unnecessary bidding contest. Brown has clear potential, yet the value of the deal will depend entirely on whether Fenerbahçe softens their stance.
