Charley Hull and Lottie Woad left the AIG Women's Open feeling the sting of a "missed opportunity" for their first major win, as highlighted by Dame Laura Davies. The duo finished tied for sixth, four strokes behind champion Shiho Kuwaki, who clinched victory at -5 at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

Woad began the final round at three under but faltered, recording her first over-par round of the tournament. Meanwhile, Hull failed to capitalize on a birdie start, suffering two double-bogeys at holes three and seven, which derailed her chances.

Davies remarked, "They'll both see this as a missed opportunity because five under has won it." She noted that while Hull had a total of 17 birdies throughout the week—trailing only world No. 1 Nelly Korda—she also recorded 12 bogeys and two crucial doubles that could have placed her in contention for a playoff.

Woad, who had a strong start with a bogey-free 69, could not maintain her momentum, finishing with rounds of 71 and 70 before slipping on the final day. Despite this, she achieved her fifth top-10 finish in her career and is set to make her debut in the Solheim Cup for Team Europe next month.

Commentator Andrew Cotter praised Woad's performance, stating, "Woad didn't roll in enough putts... but she continues her remarkable run with a third top-10 in three Women's Open Championships. A major will surely happen for her in the future—she's only 22 years old."
