A Celtic fan has tragically died after becoming ill during the club's Champions League qualifier against LASK on Wednesday. The news was confirmed by the Parkhead side in a statement released on Thursday evening.

The statement expressed deep sorrow, stating:

It is with real sadness that we confirm that one of our supporters has passed away after becoming ill during last night’s match at Celtic Park. Despite the efforts of medical staff, tragically, he died later in hospital.

Celtic extended their condolences to the family and thanked emergency services and fellow supporters for their efforts during the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson reported that around 9:05 PM on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, they received a report about a man who had taken ill within Celtic Park. A 65-year-old man was transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where he passed away shortly after. Authorities stated there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

This devastating news follows Celtic's impressive 3-0 victory over LASK, which puts them in a strong position for the return leg next Tuesday in Austria. The goals came from Benjamin Nygren and two from Camilo Duran, showcasing Celtic's dominance.
