Cape Verde’s esteemed manager Bubista, who recently guided the island nation to a stunning World Cup debut, has been appointed as the new manager of Renaissance Berkane, the club announced on Tuesday.

While contract details remain undisclosed, this appointment follows extensive negotiations that considered Bubista balancing both national and club responsibilities. Reports suggest that the 56-year-old is likely to resign from his Cape Verde role within days.

Renaissance Berkane has established itself as a powerhouse in Moroccan football, having won the league title in 2025 and finishing as runners-up this year. The club also reached the semi-finals of the African Champions League last season and is poised to compete in the prestigious tournament again.

Bubista, whose full name is Pedro Leitao Brito, earned the title of African Coach of the Year in 2025 after leading Cape Verde to its historic World Cup qualification. During the tournament held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, his team achieved remarkable draws against Spain and Uruguay, before narrowly losing to eventual finalists Argentina in the round of 32.

In addition to Bubista's move, goalkeeper Vozinha has also secured a significant transfer following the World Cup. He has signed with Colo-Colo in Chile, and is currently seeking permission to wear his nickname on his jersey, which is restricted by league rules. The regulations mandate that players must have their surnames printed on the back of their jerseys, raising questions about whether exceptions can be made for Vozinha, whose real name is Josimar José Évora Dias.
