George Russell secured a dramatic Sprint pole position at the Canadian Grand Prix, edging out Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli by just 0.068 seconds. This victory comes after Russell trailed Antonelli by 20 points, with the Italian teen having won the last three races. Thanks to significant upgrades, the Mercedes team showcased superior performance at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri filled the second row, with Norris overcoming a mistake in SQ3 to finish third, though they lagged over three tenths behind Russell.

Russell expressed his excitement, stating, "This feels great after a tough Miami but I never doubted myself. I know what I can do. Miami is unique but this is an amazing circuit with high grip."

Lewis Hamilton qualified fifth despite leading in SQ1 and SQ2, while Charles Leclerc of Ferrari came in sixth. Hamilton's strategy of not simulating the circuit appeared effective, marking his first competitive session win against Leclerc since China.

Completing the top eight were Max Verstappen in seventh and Isack Hadjar in eighth. Arvid Lindblad debuted impressively with a ninth-place finish, while Carlos Sainz rounded out the top ten. His teammate, Alex Albon, missed the session due to an earlier incident.

The Sprint Qualifying saw a red flag caused by Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin after a crash at Turn 3.

This performance marks a significant comeback for Russell, who had struggled in Miami. His fast lap of 1:12.965 proved unbeatable, with Antonelli and Hamilton unable to surpass it despite their strong efforts.
