Shamrock Rovers' Josh O'Dwyer, just 16 years old, has received a call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad for their upcoming friendly against Canada in Montreal. This marks a significant milestone for the young talent, who joins his club teammate Matt Healy and Kian Leavy from St Patrick's Athletic, both of whom are also making their first appearances in the senior team.

O'Dwyer, who has previously represented Ireland at under-15 and under-17 levels, is set to join Red Bull Salzburg in July for an undisclosed fee. His inclusion in the squad, as a "training player," aims to provide him with invaluable experience alongside seasoned professionals under the guidance of coach Heimir Hallgrimsson.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) emphasized the importance of this opportunity, stating, "O'Dwyer will gain valuable experience with the senior squad in Montreal before linking up with the Ireland Under-17s for their international window next week."

In addition to O'Dwyer, the squad sees the return of goalkeeper Mark Travers and midfielders Conor Coventry and Dawson Devoy, who were initially absent in the team’s recent 1-0 victory over Qatar in Dublin.

As part of the pre-arranged squad management, players Caoimhin Kelleher, Dara O'Shea, Jayson Molumby, and Jack Moylan, who was sent off in the last match, have returned to their clubs.

The friendly against Canada is scheduled to kick off at 00:30 BST on Saturday, 6 June, at the Stade Saputo.
