Middle-distance runner Cameron Myers has etched his name in history by becoming only the eighth Australian to win a Diamond League final crown, securing victory in the men’s 1500m in Brussels. The 20-year-old achieved one of the most significant wins of his career, overcoming a star-studded field that featured Olympic champions Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Cole Hocker.

Myers executed a perfect late burst down the home straight, finishing with a time of 3:30.14, just ahead of Kenya’s Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech at 3:30.18. Ingebrigtsen, returning from Achilles surgery, initially set a strong pace but faded in the last 30 meters, allowing America’s Ethan Strand to clinch third place in 3:30.50.

Post-race, Myers expressed his relief and excitement: “I’m pretty relieved to be honest! It’s nice to get a win, I’m super pumped,” he said. He reflected on his race strategy, noting, “I contemplated making a move on the back straight but I didn’t really need to.”

In addition, Kurtis Marschall showcased his talent in pole vaulting, finishing third after world record-holder Armand Duplantis withdrew. Marschall cleared 5.82m, while Emmanouil Karalis set a new meet record with 6.12m.

Lachlan Kennedy continued his impressive form, running a sub-10 second 100m in 9.99sec, finishing fourth. Matthew Denny, in the discus throw, fell short of the podium with a throw of 68.04m, while Rose Davies narrowly missed out in the women’s 5,000m, clocking 14:37.47. The race was won by Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu in 14:35.20.
