Cameron Myers, the 20-year-old sensation, made headlines on Sunday night in Paris by breaking the Australian 1500m record with an astonishing time of 3:28.00. This performance not only marked the fastest time recorded globally this year but also made him the fastest runner under 21 in history. Currently, Myers stands 12th on the all-time 1500m list, just two seconds shy of the world record.

Myers expressed his relief and ambition after achieving this milestone, stating, "I think having that exterior pressure on yourself to get a time, sort of takes away from the main part of the race and that’s winning. So, yeah, clearing that up [the record], I think it’s going to be huge going forward." He clinched the record while securing victory against notable competitors, including Azeddine Habz from France and Jake Wightman, the British world champion from 2022.

Looking ahead, Myers is gearing up for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he will compete in a historic mile race, the first of its kind at the Games in 60 years. He will face off against fellow Australian Olli Hoare, whose national record he recently broke. Notably, both Wightman and Josh Kerr, the 2023 world champion and 2024 Olympic silver medallist, are also set to participate, promising a thrilling competition.

Despite narrowly missing out on the 2024 Paris Olympics, Myers views the setback as motivation, stating it "gave me the fire" to push forward. With his admiration for Jakob Ingebrigtsen, he aspires to compete against his idol in upcoming events, including a potential Diamond League meet in London this month.
