The incident occurred in the second quarter when Clark fell after contact from Kiah Stokes of the Valkyries while attempting a lay-up. After getting up, she appeared to be limping, raising concerns about her condition.

The situation escalated when teammate Aliyah Boston was called for a foul after Veronica Burton of the Valkyries bumped into her. In a moment of frustration, Clark confronted referee Gerda Gatling, exclaiming, "Give me a call. I got fouled five times," while using an expletive.

Despite leaving the court momentarily, Clark returned to finish the game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. After the game, she expressed her dissatisfaction with the officiating, stating, "You can't miss calls like that. I had to play with a contusion on my leg for the rest of the game. It's ridiculous."

Clark also noted, "She [Gatling] said I initiated contact, which is fine. But you can't knee me in the leg and knock me over."

This incident marks the second time in a month that Clark has raised concerns about Gatling's officiating. Stephanie White, head coach of the Fever, also criticized the referees for their handling of calls involving Clark. Notably, Clark was the number one pick in the 2024 Draft, illustrating her prominence in women's basketball.
