Elversberg has achieved a historic milestone by securing promotion to the Bundesliga, becoming one of the smallest clubs ever to compete in Germany's top flight. This remarkable feat was accomplished with a 3-0 victory against relegated Preussen Munster on Sunday, where goals from Bambase Conte and David Mokwa gave Elversberg a commanding lead within the first 15 minutes. Mokwa later added his second goal midway through the second half, solidifying their second-place finish.

With a population of approximately 13,000, Spiesen-Elversberg will officially be the smallest town represented in the Bundesliga. The jubilant supporters flooded the pitch at the 10,000 capacity Waldstadion an der Kaiserlinde after the final whistle, celebrating a remarkable third promotion in just five years.

Elversberg narrowly missed promotion last season, falling 4-3 on aggregate to Heidenheim in the promotion-relegation play-off. Prior to that decisive match, rail operator Deutsche Bahn humorously suggested that a single carriage would suffice for Elversberg's travel needs.

Founded in 1907 and located in the small state of Saarland, Elversberg had been competing in the regionalised fourth tier as recently as the 2021-22 season and had never played in the second tier until now.

In preparation for their Bundesliga debut, the club's stadium is undergoing renovations to expand its capacity to 15,000 by spring 2027. Next season, Elversberg will be joined in the Bundesliga by Schalke, who clinched the 2. Bundesliga title, marking their return to the top flight after a three-year absence. The promotion-relegation play-off will feature Wolfsburg and Paderborn, who finished 16th in the Bundesliga and third in the second division, respectively.
