On Friday morning, Denver Broncos outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper was arrested on domestic violence charges in Colorado. According to Douglas County Jail records, Cooper was booked at 2:38 a.m. local time on two counts of domestic violence and one count of criminal mischief.

The incident involved a dispute over phones between Cooper and an adult female. The woman alleged that Cooper cheated, leading to a confrontation where she threw his phone, prompting him to bite her phone. Police reported that both phones sustained damage during the altercation.

Cooper was taken into custody by Parker Police at 11:16 p.m. on Thursday and subsequently appeared in court on Friday morning, with another court appearance scheduled for Monday.

The Broncos released a statement, acknowledging the situation:

we are aware of the matter and gathering more information.

As of Friday morning, Cooper remained in custody, and a spokesman for the Parker Police indicated that no further information was available.

At 28 years old, Cooper was drafted by the Broncos in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has spent five seasons in the league and signed a four-year, $60 million extension with Denver in 2024, with two years left on that contract.

Cooper has been active in the Broncos offseason program and participated in Thursday's OTAs. Last season, he recorded eight sacks, ranking second on the team.
