British hopes in the singles at the US Open ended as Fran Jones was eliminated in the second round. After achieving her first main draw victory by defeating Magda Linette in round one, the 25-year-old qualifier from Bradford faced a tough match against American Iva Jovic, the 14th seed, losing in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 on Stadium 17.

Jones, who was the last British player remaining after Harriet Dart’s earlier defeat to Marie Bouzkova, acknowledged Jovic's skill, saying, “It’s not like I was outclassed. You’re talking about someone who has gone deep in the slams and one of the most consistent players on the Tour.” Despite her efforts, she felt the match was defined by missed opportunities, stating, “It was just half-chances. It’s frustrating but it’s pretty clear my level is there.”

This loss meant that all nine British players who reached the main draw exited before the third round. Notably, British number one Katie Boulter suffered a swift defeat, falling 6-1, 6-0 to Karolina Muchova.

Dart, who struggled in the New York heat, utilized iced neck scarves and cold-air hoses during changeovers. She reflected on her match, noting, “I have been a bit under the weather... I had a temperature, I was trying to cool down.” Despite her challenges, she recognized Bouzkova's skill, saying, “She played a really clean match. She gives you no free points.” Dart concluded with a positive note, expressing satisfaction with her four-match success at the tournament.
