Georgia Hunter Bell continued her remarkable summer by winning the 1500m European gold medal, showcasing her dominance in the event. In a race characterized by strategy, she delivered a stunning final lap, clocking 58.44 seconds for the last 400m, finishing with a time of 4:07.78, a full 10 metres ahead of her competitors.

Hunter Bell expressed her excitement, stating, “That last 150 is always my favourite part of the race. It’s so special, another gold this year. I am really hoping to make it four in September.” She has already claimed gold at the world indoor championships in March and the 800m at the Commonwealth Games last month.

In the race, Klaudia Kazimierska of Poland finished just over a second behind, securing silver, while Patricia Silva of Portugal took an unexpected bronze.

The night was also fruitful for Britain, as Jazmin Sawyers earned silver in the long jump with a leap of 6.99m, just shy of Larissa Iapichino from Italy, who jumped 7.00m. The women’s 4x400m team followed with another silver behind the Netherlands.

Jack Buckner, CEO of UK Athletics, praised the success of the championships, noting an impressive four million viewers tuned in for the epic 800m final. He remarked, “This sport has cut through into the mainstream,” highlighting the emergence of new stars like Amy Hunt and applauding athletes like Keely Hodgkinson for their role model status.

Buckner hinted at the possibility of bidding for future championships, emphasizing the need for a prominent stage for British athletics. Despite initial ticket sales struggles, he reported a 73% sell-out of the 23,000-capacity Alexander Stadium, reflecting a strong performance in ticketing for the event.
