Romell Glave recently celebrated a remarkable comeback by winning the 100m gold medal at the 2026 European Championships in Birmingham. Reflecting on his journey, Glave described 2026 as his year of redemption, emphasizing the mantra "Delayed but not denied."

Born in Manchester, Jamaica, and moving to the UK at 15, Glave quickly made a name for himself, becoming the fastest 100m sprinter in his age group by 17 with a time of 10.21 seconds. However, his path was marred by significant injuries, including a back fracture that sidelined him for much of 2022. This injury forced him to debut at the European Championships only in 2024, where he earned a bronze medal.

Despite setbacks, including missing the 2024 Olympics due to a second back injury, Glave returned stronger than ever in 2026. He not only won gold in the 60m at a World Indoor Athletics meet but also broke the 10-second barrier for the first time with a time of 9.98 seconds in June, further improving to 9.97 seconds in London.

His triumph in Birmingham was the culmination of hard work and resilience. Glave credited his success to the unwavering support from his medical team and coach Michael Afilaka, who he regards as a mentor.
