Brighton delivered a stunning performance against rivals Crystal Palace, winning 5-0 in a one-sided M23 derby on October 7, 2023. The match marked a remarkable turnaround for manager Fabian Hurzeler, whose side showcased both intensity and skill.

The opening goal came from Jaydee Canvot, who unfortunately scored an own goal from a Pascal Gross delivery, setting a grim tone for Palace. Just moments later, Diego Gomez stunned the crowd with a spectacular strike from the halfway line, making it 2-0. Yasin Ayari added a third goal in the 10th minute, leaving Palace reeling.

Despite needing to regroup at halftime, Brighton continued their onslaught. Just three minutes into the second half, Charalampos Kostoulas scored after a VAR check confirmed no handball, extending the lead to 4-0. Palace's Jean Philippe-Mateta hit the bar, but the day belonged to Brighton, who sealed the victory with a late goal from substitute Jack Hinshelwood.

This win brought Brighton to 16 points from seven matches this season, highlighting the significant progress under Hurzeler, who faced criticism after last season's defeat to Palace. His resilience and the club's faith in him have now yielded impressive results, demonstrating Brighton's commitment to smart decision-making and strategic growth. The transformation is evident, as the team moves forward with renewed confidence.
