Brentford has officially announced the signing of Mamadou Sangare, a talented midfielder from Lens, for a record club fee. The 24-year-old has committed to a five-year deal, with the option for an additional year.

While the club did not disclose the exact fee, it has been noted that the amount surpasses the previous record of £42.5 million paid for Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth last summer.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating:

"Mamadou is someone that we've tracked for quite some time. He's been on our radar and was a player we were really keen to bring in."

Last season, Sangare had an impressive performance with Lens, making 33 appearances and helping the team secure a second-place finish in the league. His growth as a player followed a series of loan spells, culminating in a standout season that caught the attention of Brentford.

Andrews highlighted Sangare's contributions to the Mali national team, where he has become a pivotal player, saying:

"Added to that was his form for Mali, where he became a really key player for them."

Sangare's career began at Red Bull Salzburg, and he had several loan spells before a successful stint at Hartberg led to his move to Rapid Vienna. He has also represented Mali, earning 16 caps and participating in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

With his determination and humble demeanor, Andrews believes Sangare is eager to make a significant impact at Brentford, stating:

"From the conversations I've had with him, he's very keen to come here. He's a humble young man, but he's equally as determined to succeed in his career."
