Brendan Sorsby, the former quarterback for Indiana, Cincinnati, and Texas Tech, has decided to sit out the 2026 season due to gambling issues. After an unsuccessful attempt to enter the NFL through this summer's supplemental draft, he will not seek legal action against the league and will be eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft, as confirmed by CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones.

The NFL has opted not to impose further penalties beyond an unofficial one-year suspension, allowing Sorsby to participate in the Senior Bowl, pro days, and team visits ahead of the 2027 draft, per ESPN.

In his statement, Sorsby expressed:

"I accept 100% responsibility for my actions. I did not have control of my gambling problem, and it took getting caught for me to realize that... I am fully committed to being the best version of myself that I can be while getting ready for the 2027 draft."

Sorsby's journey in 2026 has been tumultuous. After transferring to Texas Tech as the No. 2 prospect in the transfer portal, he earned first-team All-Big 12 honors in 2025, leading the conference in passer efficiency with a rating of 155.1. However, the NCAA flagged him for gambling activities on April 14, leading to his admission into a rehab facility on April 27. He filed for reinstatement on May 18 after being ruled ineligible due to numerous bets placed during his college career.

Despite a Texas judge granting an injunction against the NCAA’s ruling on June 8, Sorsby opted to leave college football behind to pursue the NFL. This decision came after the Big 12 initiated legal action against him and Texas Tech on June 15.

Sorsby, who has achieved notable statistics with over 45 passing touchdowns and 1,000 rushing yards in two years, aims to turn this setback into a pivotal moment for personal growth and recovery.
