FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Florida Panthers general manager Bill Zito made headlines on Sunday by trading for Brady Tkachuk, the captain of the Ottawa Senators, thus reuniting him with his brother Matthew Tkachuk in South Florida. Known for their vibrant personalities, the Tkachuks are set to become a formidable duo on the ice, fulfilling a childhood dream of playing together in the NHL.

Brady expressed his disbelief upon learning of the trade while surrounded by family on Father's Day. "I was off my phone for five minutes when it happened, we were doing family pictures," he recalled. He acknowledged the emotional whirlwind that followed, stating, "I just couldn't believe it. I know I'm gonna need a couple days... to regroup."

The brothers first showcased their synergy during the 4 Nations Face-Off in February 2025, where they made headlines by fighting Canadian players early in the game. Their bond continued to strengthen, culminating in a gold medal win at the 2026 Winter Olympics, the first for the U.S. men's team since 1980.

Zito, who served as an assistant GM for Team USA, witnessed their chemistry firsthand and recognized their potential as teammates. "They had like a hot stove central setup in their rooms," he noted, highlighting their camaraderie with fellow players.
