Amy Pu is making history as the first female professional referee in British boxing, a milestone she achieved after being inspired to step beyond the amateur ranks. Born in Taiwan, Pu moved to London in 2004 and later returned permanently in 2009. Initially focused on progressing to international amateur levels, she had not considered turning professional until approached by the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC).

In March 2024, Pu officiated her first professional match at York Hall, where Marcus Eaton faced Paul Scaife. Despite her initial uncertainty about stepping into the ring, she embraced the moment, focusing solely on the boxers during the match.

Pu's journey into boxing began as a fitness hobby, evolving into amateur competition and judging, before she became a qualified referee in 2018. Her traditional Taiwanese upbringing brought concerns from her family regarding safety and potential racism, but they ultimately supported her groundbreaking decision.

Just a month after her debut, Pu scored another match, showcasing her growing responsibilities within the sport. While she faced some skepticism during her amateur days, her professional experience has been mostly positive.
