Janse van Rensburg, who previously represented South Africa's under-20 side, became eligible for England this summer after residing in the country for five years. He made an impressive debut against Fiji in July, scoring a try in a commanding 73-8 victory.

Erasmus had mentioned that Janse van Rensburg was "very keen" during talks with Springboks officials but was ultimately not selected. Janse van Rensburg responded, "I only heard about it because my dad told me Rassie said it. I would have probably loved to, but really every team I play for, I want to do my best and whatever comes after that, comes after that."

Criticism has emerged regarding his selection over homegrown talents. Former England player Danny Care expressed discomfort with the decision, stating it "doesn't sit right," while legends like Jeremy Guscott and Mike Tindall have also questioned the choice.

Despite the backlash, Janse van Rensburg remains focused, acknowledging the mixed opinions:

It is understandable that there are going to be some people that don't like it and some people that do like it. For me, I probably can't prove them wrong.

On tour, he humorously noted his success in card games, stating, "I think I made about 300-odd pounds on tour, just by winning all the cards."
