Former England captain Ben Stokes made a triumphant return to domestic cricket by scoring a match-winning hundred for Durham in his first match since announcing his international retirement. Stokes delivered an impressive performance, striking an unbeaten 108 off 123 balls and helping his team chase down a target of 257 to defeat Derbyshire by five wickets in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

This century marked Stokes' 10th List A century and his first for Durham since 2014. The milestone came less than a month after he retired from international duty following the series-ending Test defeat to New Zealand at Trent Bridge.

In the match, Derbyshire opted to bat first, scoring 256-9 with Martin Andersson leading their innings with 112 runs. Stokes, however, had a challenging day with the ball, finishing with figures of 0-38 from his nine overs.

Stokes entered the crease when Durham faced early trouble at 24-2 in the ninth over. His partnerships with Will Rhodes (45), Colin Ackermann (28), and Ollie Robinson (23) proved crucial in stabilizing the innings. He reached his century off 116 balls and guided Durham to victory, which was sealed with a boundary off the first ball of the final over.

England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir also participated, taking 1-56 from his ten overs for Derbyshire.
