In a thrilling match at Emirates Old Trafford, Flintoff had scored a remarkable 65-ball century against Somerset just days prior but fell short this time, managing only 22 runs off 39 balls. His dismissal was part of a collapse that saw Lancashire bowled out for 187, chasing a daunting target of 350 for victory.

Ben Stokes contributed modestly, taking 1 wicket for 32 runs and scoring 11 runs in Durham's innings of 349-8. The star of the show was David Bedingham, who struck a brilliant 104 runs off 89 balls, supported by Ollie Robinson with 76 runs off 57 balls.
