Ben Stokes has made a bold statement regarding the future of England's cricket leadership. Following his retirement from Test cricket, Stokes openly supported Harry Brook as his preferred choice to succeed him as captain.

Stokes stated, "If I was asked who I think should do it, I would be throwing my 100 per cent support behind Harry Brook." This comes after England's disappointing series defeat to New Zealand, culminating in Stokes' farewell Test at Trent Bridge.

Despite being overlooked for the captaincy during the second Test at The Oval, where Joe Root took charge, Stokes emphasized Brook's potential. He remarked, "There's a reason why he was asked to be vice-captain of this team," highlighting Brook's talent and leadership qualities. Stokes believes that Brook's experience as vice-captain positions him well for the role, stating, "If the captain is not there or unavailable, then you step up to be that."

Looking ahead, Brendon McCullum, head coach of England's Test and white-ball teams, acknowledged the need for discussions about the next captain. While he values Brook's contributions, he mentioned the importance of considering the workload involved in leading across formats.

Former captain Nasser Hussain also supports Brook but warns of the pressures that come with the position, especially in conjunction with white-ball commitments. He noted, "It really depends what happens with the hierarchy at the top."

As England prepares for their next Test series against Pakistan on August 19, the decision on the next captain remains crucial for the team's future.
